Privacy policy

Frugal Dubai is a free collection of money-saving tips for people living in Dubai. There are no accounts and no ads. This section explains what is stored or sent when you use it, including how we measure visits.

On your device

The site keeps a few small values in your browser's local storage so it can remember your place. They never leave your device and we cannot see them:

• the tips you have saved, and the tips you have already seen;
• whether you have dismissed the introduction; and
• your light or dark theme choice.

The site also stores a copy of its pages and images in your browser so it works offline. Clearing this site's data in your browser settings removes all of it.

Measuring visits

We use Google Tag Manager to load tools that tell us how the site is used, such as which pages are visited and how people find it. These tools may set cookies and send Google information about your visit, including your IP address and your device and browser type. We use it only in aggregate, to improve the site, and never to identify you.

You can block this with your browser's privacy settings or a content blocker, and the site works just the same without it. Google explains how it uses this information in How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

When you submit a tip

The submission form asks for your tip, your name and your email address, and optionally an X or Instagram handle. When you send it, those details are saved to our tip database and emailed to us so we can review the tip. We use them only to:

• decide whether the tip goes in the deck;
• contact you if we need to check a detail; and
• credit you by name or handle if the tip is published.

We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not sell or share your details with anyone else. The database is hosted by Supabase and the email is delivered by Resend, both of which process your details on our behalf. We keep submissions only as long as we need them to review the tip and credit you. To have yours deleted, email us at the address below.

Services a visit touches

Like any website, loading this one sends your IP address and basic browser details to the services that deliver it. They receive this to serve the page and keep it secure, not because we ask for it:

• Cloudflare, which hosts the site;
• Google, through Google Tag Manager, as described under "Measuring visits"; and
• Unsplash andPexels, which serve the photos.

Sharing a tip uses your device's share sheet or the app you pick, such as WhatsApp. What happens after that is covered by that app's own policy.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. The only personal information we hold ourselves is what you put in a submission, so the quickest route is to email us from the address you submitted with. Visit measurements are held by Google, in aggregate.

By using Frugal Dubai you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

General information, not advice

The tips are general information for people living in Dubai. They are not financial, legal, tax or investment advice, and they do not take your own circumstances into account. Prices, fees, rules and offers change, so check the details with the provider before you act, and consider professional advice for significant decisions.

Naming a bank, telco, shop or platform is not an endorsement, and we are not paid for any mention. We are not affiliated with any company or government body named on the site.

Accuracy

We check every tip before it is published, but we cannot guarantee that everything is complete, correct or current. If you spot something wrong, please tell us. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site or reliance on its content.

Links and photos

Tips link to other websites for convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or practices. Photos are from Unsplash and Pexels under their licences and are credited to their photographers on each card.

Submitting a tip

When you submit a tip you confirm it is your own and that sharing it does not break any law or anyone else's rights. You give us permission to edit it, publish it on the site and in images made to share it, and credit you as you asked. Submitting does not guarantee publication.

Using the site

You are welcome to share tips with anyone. Please do not copy the site wholesale, scrape it, or try to interfere with how it works, including by sending automated submissions.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms and this policy; the date at the top shows the latest version. These terms are governed by the laws of the Emirate of Dubai and the federal laws of the United Arab Emirates.
